OPEN DAY 2003 - 29th June 12.00

Weather : Sunny, Air Temp. : 20c, Wind : 20-27mph, Sea State : Choppy

Patrol Boat team : Martin Searle, Chris Wilson and Geoff Green

Quite a few visitors enjoyed their visit to the club on Sunday 29th of June despite the less than ideal sailing conditions (it being a little too windy to take people out).

The winds were the main problem with the event, this unfortunately the curtailed plan to take visitors out for a sail. However 3 brave visitors ventured out with 'Sailing Legend ' Steve London on his Dart 18. Steve reported that it was very fast and very wet !.  The visitors all enjoyed their time out on the water, with one visitor getting more than he bargained for when he was lost overboard during a gybe when the wind was blowing at its maximum. He was rescued quickly by the patrol boat and put back on board with Steve. The photos below show Steve and Josh doing their shakedown sail prior to taking out members of the public.

In other events much entertainment was had when Mike & Vanessa Jefferies decided to go for a sail on their Hurricane 5.9, they had some trouble getting going off the shore and they capsized just off shore and were quickly blown back to the beach. A gaggle of sailors gathered and assisted Mike with righting the boat and they soon had it back upright with no damage done to the boat. Mike naturally blamed his crew and vice versa (no surprises there ! ;-) ). In the photos below you can see them departing the shore, just after they righted the boat and finally getting it back onto the beach.

After the tide had gone out Chris Stafford got out his land-yacht and gave a good demonstration on how to sail the machine over the far from ideal terrain at seasalter. It was noted that the yacht had trouble keeping going through the tacks this was due to the wheels sinking into the mud a little too much and creating too much friction.

After the events of the day everyone settled down to a barbeque supper, prepared by Lesley Stafford and Dave Lincoln, and drinks from the bar.
